Gerry Bertrand

Gerry was born and raised in the tiny Northern Ontario community of Connaught. Following a move to Sudbury in the early 80’s, Gerry volunteered first with the March of Dimes followed by a 12 year stint with the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Then, the sound of distant drums beckoned him and he joined the Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival and served there in various capacities for 18 years. Once inducted into Lionism in March 2007, Gerry spent two years as Community Services Chair and attended MD “A” Regional Lions Leadership Institute. He received the International Presidents Commendation Award at the A-5 Convention in 2009/2010, the same year he served as the 85th President of the Lions Club of Sudbury. He served as Zone Chair for 14 Central in 2010/2011 and Regional Chair 14 from 2011 to 2013. Gerry was presented with the “Judge Brian Stevenson Award” in 2013, the International Presidents leadership gold medal in 2013 and a Melvin Jones fellowship in 2014. Gerry also served as the District A-5 Governor in 2015/2016. He is currently the Vice-President of the Lockerby Legion. Gerry married his wife Catherine Walton in 2004. Between them, they have 6 children and 9 grandchildren. He has been with Simple Wishes as a Funeral Director’s Assistant since 2017.
