Allen Friskey Obituary

In loving memory of Allen Friskey, 88 years, who passed away peacefully at his residence in Sudbury on Monday, October 17, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Viola Roleen Harvey (predeceased 1982). Dear father of Roger Friskey (Lauraine Dagenais), Lois Friskey-McCulloch (Mel), Valerie Friskey-Coutu (Leo) and Sherry Friskey-Leblanc (Denis). Will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Jesse (Yvonne), Tanya, Roxanne, Natasha (Dave), Sara (Mark), Sonny (Chelsea), Zackary (Carlo), Rolly, Troy (Jessica) and Denis Jr. Loving great-grandfather to Katelynn, Wesley, Tyra, Abby, Sophia, Jace and Lucas, Emma and Nya. Also survived by his loving sister Theresa "Terry" Lavoie. Al was predeceased by his brothers Fred, Eddie, Gilbert, Harold and David, by his sisters Dorothy, Karen, Pat, Stormy and Zelma, by his parents Henry and Lydia Friskey and by his special friend of 9 years, Theresa Smith. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Our special and musically talented father and grandfather, he has left a legacy that we all will carry with us forever. He will always be remembered for his passion of country music as he was always playing one of his several instruments on a daily basis, his love of all things nature, trips to Killarney for fish and chips and his endless passion for politics. Born on January 12, 1928 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Al began his passion for music as a small boy learning to play on a broken guitar as that was all that was available during the Great Depression. In the late 40's, Al began playing in a band (The Valley Play Boys) and was always reminiscing about how much fun he had on the weekends jamming with his buddies. He met the love of his life Viola in Foleyet, Ontario in 1949 at a local diner. He worked at INCO for 16 years, at VOB as a pipe fitter and Blackwood Hodge as a heavy duty mechanic. He owned and operated his own family business, "Friskey's Esso", on the corner of Penage Road in Whitefish. "God saw him getting tired and an end was meant to be. So he put his arms around him and whispered, "Come to me". With tearful eyes we watched him smile and saw him slowly fade away. Although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands put to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best". We love you to the moon and back. Love your family! As per Al's wishes, there will be no visitation, cremation. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements in care of Simple Wishes of the North. (705) 470-7070
