Our hearts are empty and heavy with the passing of our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle Clifford Gerald “Sam” Freeland, of Capreol, who passed away at Health Sciences North on Thursday, August 3rd, 2017 at the age of 82 years. Beloved husband of the late Marilyn (nee Kirwan), predeceased 1977. Loving father of Patrick of Alberta, Kevin (wife Donna-Lynn) of Sudbury, Shelley of Saskatchewan and Tammi of Alberta. Dear grandfather of several grandchildren. Loving brother of the late Helen Cassell (husband Albert predeceased), the late Evelyn Beck, the late Alex (wife Lillian predeceased), the late Albert (wife Genevieve predeceased), the late Fred (wife Muriel predeceased), the late Wilfred (wife Eleanor of Edmonton), the late Elmer (wife Rita of Capreol), the late Kenneth (wife Margaret predeceased), the late Garnet, the late Clarence, William of Capreol, and the late Elizabeth (husband Albert of Capreol). Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great- great nieces and nephews. Sam was born in Capreol on July 23, 1935 to parents Mary and James Freeland (both predeceased). For most of his adult life, he worked as a truck driver for Hanna Mines in Capreol and then for the Parks Department with the City of Greater Sudbury. Sam was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and of the Legion in Capreol. In his healthier years, he enjoyed bowling and was very active with the Special Olympics as a volunteer and with the YBC. Sam will be remembered for having a good sense of humour and for his love of family gatherings. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation at Lakeview Crematorium. A celebration of his life will take place at the United Church in Capreol on Saturday, September 30th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow. Relatives and friends may gather at the church after 10:00 a.m. that day. Donations to the Kidney Foundation, in Sam’s memory, are welcome.
