Craig Caswell photo (2)

Thanks to Jamie Dupuis for allowing us to share his gift of music

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Craig on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Maison McCulloch (Vale) Hospice with his loving family by his side. Born and raised in Sudbury to Laura and Bill Caswell (predeceased) on December 4, 1937. Also predeceased by brother Corky Caswell and wife Irene Caswell, Laura Jean McNeil Medina, John McNeil, Brian Hodgins, Alan Deeth and in laws Ned and Doreen Rissling and sister in law Shirley Rissling and nephew John David McNeil. Craig is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Elaine, beloved sons Garnet (Tracy), Neil (Elizabeth) and Brent (Kami-Rae), dearest “Grandpa” to Carthy, Caroline, Emma, Seann, Clarke and Noah Caswell. He is also survived by sisters Mary Deeth, Ruth Hodgins Runions (Don Runions), Gino Medina (Arlene), sister and brother in law Sharon and David Ruby, Beverly and Doug Jones, Linda Baltzer, Jim and Linda, Dale and Laura, and Terry and Douglas Rissling, many nieces, nephews and cousins, special aunts Carolyn and Audrey. Craig was born, raised and educated in Sudbury. He was employed as an Insurance Inspector, Realtor, and for many years as a salesman in the furniture business. In his youth, he was an avid skier, hiker, canoe enthusiast and curler, and he loved pick-up games of hockey. He was a member of the Nickel Teen Ski Cub, Sudbury Granite Curling Club and Royal Canadian Legion. He was a great fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays and devoted supporter of his sons sports and school activities throughout his entire life. He adored his grandchildren and loved watching them play hockey, soccer, music and all activities. Craig loved to travel and especially appreciated the many day trips all around Ontario, travel to the East Coast, The Bahamas, flights to Vancouver and train trips to Brandon. Of all his passions, none was greater than his love for the family camp and Lake Penage where he loved long boat rides, exploring the many bays and islands, fishing, swimming, a cold beer dockside, bbq and just hanging out with his family. He had a terrific sense of humour and loved teasing with his “one liners”, particularly his nephews and nieces. Our precious Craig will be missed by all of us. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service at St. Peter’s United Church on York St. in Sudbury on Saturday May 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may gather at 10:30 a.m. We gratefully thank the wonderful caregivers at the Hospice for their respectful and compassionate care of Craig. Donations to Maison McCulloch (Vale) Hospice would be appreciated. John 14-2; “In my Father’s house are many rooms, if it were not so, would I have told you that, I go to prepare a room for you”. Dear Elaine, Garnet ,Neil and Brent and family. It was a privelege and an honor to have had Craig as my brother in law for well over 50 years.one of my first and fondest memories was when I was 5 or 6 years old and ring bearer at your wedding Elaine. Even then he treated me so well.I cry thinking of him being gone but smile profoundly when I think of the many smiles and jokes we shared over the years. He will truly be missed and always remembered. .may God bless you all with fond memories and peace at this sad time.love Dale & Laura Rissling

Elaine, Neil, and family, I enjoyed the times I spoke with Craig, I always found him to be so enjoyable to be around and talk to. He was always kind enough to include me as a guest at your camp or your home, and I will always remember his hearty laugh and sense of humour. He raised three great boys and I know was very proud of them and his grandchildren. My sincerest condolences.
