Thanks to Jamie Dupuis for allowing us to share his gift of music

Desmond Howard Julian 1937-2018 On Friday October 26th 2018 at 7:00 A.M. our much loved Father, our Ampa, Great-Ampa and Friend earned his wings. Desi joined his beloved Wife of 60 years Phyllis (nee Stevens) in heaven. Desi was born February 14th 1937 in Arnprior, Ontario to Versal Julian and Rose Mae Robillard. He was raised in Almonte, Ontario by his grandparents Tillie and Thomas Julian. As a teenager he would spend summer in Wahnapitae, Ontario with his Father and Step-Mother, and siblings Gwen, Diane, Marvin, Sydney, Debbie, Spencer and Harley. It was during these visits that he met his soul mate Phyllis. Desi moved permanently to Wahnapitae when they married on November 23rd, 1957. Together Desi and Phyllis raised four children, Kevin, Steven (Louise), Holly (Patrick Murphy) and Ivy-Rose (Dean Martin) in Wahnapitae. He will be missed by his family including grandchildren Alex (Sophie), Marc, Danielle, Tyler Murphy, Stephanie Dempsey (Jarrett), Ryan Murphy (Predeceased) and Robyn Gammon (Matthew). As well as seven great grandchildren. In his younger years, Desi worked for the Department of Highways and Apex Forwarding. He especially enjoyed playing music with his sons in the band Eastbound Expedition, as well as other country bands and many local musicians. As an avid fisherman he enjoyed a local fishing hole on Red Deer Lake. Summer vacations were spent with family at Grundy Provincial Park with a yearly trip North to Grassy Narrows to catch the “big one”. In Retirement he enjoyed the company of his four legged pets, most recently he adopted and leaves behind Jellybean. Desi also had a love for food, he would enjoy his patio and BBQ with rhubarb pie for dessert. Occasionally he ventured to Sturgeon Falls for a large fry from the RIV. Desi was always up for a good ole’ hockey game, watching his Toronto Maple Leafs on his super-sized TV while enjoying a cold Coors. A special thank you to his dear friend Toni Mazurski for coming from B.C. and helping Desi live the rest of his life to the fullest, sharing many happy moments, one of which was a trip across Canada to British Columbia, she shared with him the Rocky mountains and many tunnels on Hwy 1. He was taken aback by just how much there was to see across Canada. Without her companionship, he would have missed out on that, and had a much more difficult time. Also, thank you to the HSN Cancer Clinic; he was happy with everyone he met there. Dr. Bill became a great confidant as well as his family physician. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Donations, in his memory, are appreciated to either the Northern Cancer Foundation or Petsave Sudbury. Cremation arrangements in care of Simple Wishes of the North. (705) 470-7070
