Evelyn Vallbacka

In loving memory of Evelyn Vallbacka who passed away peacefully at Health Sciences North in Sudbury on Friday, August 3, 2018 at the age of 71 years. Beloved wife of Harry Vallbacka of Sudbury. Loving mother of Brent Vallbacka (Lisa) and Paul Vallbacka (Barbara Ann), both of Sudbury. Cherished grandmother of Brady, Brianna, Ashley and Kyle. Dear sister of Gene Podwinski (Josiane) of Kelowna BC, Gary Podwinski (Carol) of Calgary AB, and Dennis Podwinski of Airdrie AB. Beloved daughter of Clare Podwinski of Surrey BC and the late Bert Podwinski. She will also be missed by her brother-in-law David Vallbacka (late wife Mary Jane) of Oakville and her sister-in-law Tina Lachowicz (Rick) of White Rock BC. Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews and will also be remembered by many friends and acquaintances. Dear friend of 60 years to Margaret Smith of Vancouver. Evelyn was born in Toronto on March 23, 1947. She grew up in Vancouver and returned to Toronto where she met and married her husband Harry. They moved to Sudbury together where they started their long life together. For several years, she worked as a cake decorator at A&P and Your Independent Grocer. During her spare time, she enjoyed volunteering at Health Sciences North and The Cancer Care Centre. Evelyn was a member of the Sudbury Quilt and Stitchery Guild and St. Mark's United Church. She will be remembered as a very loving and caring individual who was extremely passionate about helping others. Her greatest joy in life was being surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren who meant the world to her. A memorial service to celebrate her life will take place at St. Mark's United Church on Walford Road in Sudbury on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends may gather at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Donations to St. Mark's United Church or the Northern Cancer Foundation, in Evelyn's memory, would be greatly appreciated.
