Judith Salem

In loving memory of Judith Salem (née Martel) who passed away at the McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury on Wednesday, June 28th, 2017 at the age of 67 years. She was surrounded by her dear family. Beloved wife of Ahmad Salem of Sudbury. Loving mother of Deena Salem (Ben Palmateer) of Courtice and Kareem Salem (Sylvie Gaudet) of Sudbury. Cherished grandmother of Elliott, Kaleb, Arianne and Leila. Dear sister of Régis Martel (Lucie) of Roberval Quebec, Denis Martel (Johanne Girard) of Quebec City, Yvan Martel (Denise Bergeron) of Roberval and Lise Martel (Byron Fong) of Sudbury. Loving daughter of Marguerite Martel of Roberval QC and the late Edmond Martel. Judith was born in Roberval on September 30th, 1949. She moved to the Sudbury area in the late 1960's and for many years, she worked as a librarian for the Conseil scolaire du Nouvel-Ontario. Judith was a proud and active member of the group "Com-Femmes". Volunteering at the soup kitchen also brought great satisfaction to her life. She loved to entertain and was an amazing cook. Judith would not settle for anything less than perfect. Spending time at the cottage also brought much joy to her life and so did reading a good book. An animal enthusiast, especially dogs, that she was! Judith will be remembered as an individual who was happiest when spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren. She touched the lives of so many in our community and her generosity and kindness will never be forgotten. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation at Lakeview Crematorium. A celebration of her life will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76 (1553 Weller St., Sudbury) on Monday, July 3rd, 2017. Relatives and friends may gather at the Legion as of 10:30 a.m. that day. Ceremony to begin at 11:00 a.m. In Judith's memory, donations to the Sudbury Hospice Foundation (by cheque please) would be greatly appreciated by her family.
