Kathryn Santerre photo

Thanks to Jamie Dupuis for allowing us to share his gift of music

In loving memory of Kathryn ‘Kathie” Santerre, of Alban, who passed away at the McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury on Thursday, August 10th, 2017 at the age of 63 years. Beloved wife of the late Roger Santerre (2013). Loving mother of Kayna Bardell (husband Chris) of Garson and Shana Dubroy of Sudbury/Alban. She also leaves behind her step-children Stacie Santerre, Jeff Santerre and Jennifer Santerre (Fern Bolduc), all of Sudbury. Cherished grandmother and great-grandmother of several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Sandra Belanger (husband Ken) of Garson. Kathryn was born in Sudbury on April 14th, 1954 to parents Jean and Reino Ahola, both predeceased. For over 25 years, she worked at several of the Beer Stores around Greater Sudbury. Kathryn was a proud and dedicated member of the French River Lions Club and past member of the Valley East Lions. Prior to her passing, she held the position of Second Vice-District Governor. The Lions motto is “We Serve” and Kathie did so in many ways to help worthwhile causes. A true inspiration she was. Volunteering at the hospice and at her church also brought great joy to her life. She will be remembered as a very kind, caring and giving person who will be missed by all who had a privilege of meeting here. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation at Lakeview Crematorium. A celebration of her life will be held at Glad Tidings Church in Sudbury on Thursday August 17th, 2017 at 1p.m. in the main auditorium, with refreshments to follow. Donations to the Sudbury Hospice Foundation, in Kathryn’s memory, would be greatly appreciated by her family. Arrangements in care of Simple Wishes of the North. (705) 470-7070

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. Peace be with you at this grieving time. Katie has received her angel wings and is watching over all of you. Kathie was brave until the very end and I for one will always remember how she stayed calm and carried on. Her children, grandchildren and sister were always in her thoughts, she remained independent until the very end. Rest in Peace Katie your journey has ended. Fly in the clouds and join Roger, he is waiting for you. You will be missed by your family and friends.

In the last 4 1/2 years of knowing Kathie and Roger, we truly were blessed to know them. We really got to know Kathie through Bible Study. Kathie started a Bible Study in her home 4 yrs ago and is very instrumental in how our group started on this side of the French River. Kathie & Roger both believed that Jesus was their Savior and she truly lived her faith out loud these last 8 months of her life, what a testimony of faith in JESUS! Her absolute favorite Bible Verses were John 3:16-17; John 4:16. Missing you but I know I’ll see you in heaven my friend, love you!

I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to all of Kathie’s family. For right now, there’s no detour around grief, no shortcut through mourning. However, 2 Cor.4:7 says that God can give us, “… power beyond what is normal “, to go from one day to the next. This does not mean that we no longer cry, or that we forget. It means we recover. We recover because of our hope. Jesus Christ talked about our hope in John 5:28 which says, “… all those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out “. Jesus was referring to the resurrection. That is our amazing hope! The Bible likens our hope to an anchor. Just like an anchor stabilizes a ship, our hope stabilizes us and keeps us from drowning in overwhelming sadness. 2 Cor.1:3 describes our Creator as, “… the God of all comfort “. One way that God comforts us is by moving people who care about us to give us words of encouragement that we need to hear. May the God of comfort be your comfort now, during this time of sorrow.
