In loving memory of Marcel Lafreniere who passed away at Pioneer Manor in Sudbury on Friday, March 3rd, 2017 at the age of 85 years. Marcel was predeceased by his wife Doris (Marie). Beloved father of Annette Lafreniere-Dickson (husband Michael) of Elliot Lake, Michel (predeceased), Phillip of Sudbury, Mark of Oshawa and Peter (wife Marianne) of Hanmer. Cherished grandfather of Phil, Shannon, James, Amanda, Jenna-Marie, Jordan, Joanna, Lindsay, Laura, Taylor, Ryan, Kevin, Jeremiah, Michael and Luke and great-grandfather of Maverick, Eric, Preston and Hailey. He also leaves behind his dear daughter-in-law Joanne (husband Norm) of Chelmsford. Loving brother of the late Alain (surviving wife Rose of Powerview, Manitoba), Odile Wilcott (late husband Bart) of Kenora, Alcide of La Broquerie, Yves (wife Diane) of La Broquerie, Emilien (wife Diane) of Notre-Dame de Lourdes, and the late Christian (surviving wife Jacqueline of Notre-Dame de Lourdes). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by Sue Donovan. Marcel was born in St. Lupicin, Manitoba on March 24th, 1931 to parents Philippe and Imelda. He left the farm and relocated to Sudbury in 1951 and became a resident of Levack in 1956. For 36 years, Marcel worked for Inco and retired in 1985 as a mining foreman. He was known as "Gentle Ben" by many of his co-workers. In his healthier years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, curling and gardening. He was a past member of the Elk's Club and St-Bartholomew's Parish. The Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs were his favourite sports teams. Marcel will be remembered as a man of few words but definitely as someone who was caring and thoughtful. Being surrounded by his family brought great joy to his life. As per his wishes, there will be no public visitation. Cremation at Lakeview Crematorium. A celebration of Marcel's life will take place at Holy Redeemer Church (Bancroft Drive in Sudbury) on Saturday, March 11th, 2017 at 10 a.m. Friends may gather at the church after 9:30 that morning.
