“A Great Man is One Who Leaves Others at a Loss after He is Gone” It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Michael “Mike” Raymond Jelly of Sudbury at the age of 68 years. Surrounded by his loving family at home on February 9, 2017. Mike was born in Kirkland Lake on February 28, 1948 to parents William and Christine (nee Douglas) Jelly and was raised in Sudbury. Many weeks were spent at the family farm in New Liskeard. Devoted and loving husband of 46 years to Patricia Jelly (Baker). The rock and constant supporter to both his children and their spouses Teresa & Theodore Pate and Mike & Lisa Jelly. Grandfather to his first born grandson Jarrett, cherished Grandpa to Brock and “Da” to his little buddy Liam. Brother to three sisters, Lorraine Policnik (Lou), Gloria Jacobson (Will) and Jackie Lariviere (Dave). Dear brother-in-law to Larry Baker (Daisy), Bonnie Gagnon (predeceased), Linda Auger (predeceased), Michael Baker(predeceased), John Baker (predeceased) (Evelyn), Laurie Martin (Frank predeceased), Teresa Johnson (Bob) and Tony Johnson (Sandra). Very special uncle (aka Big Mike) to many nieces and nephews. He was a giving, loving and generous man to all who knew him. Mike drove bus for 32 years at Sudbury Transit and previous to that, he worked at Silverwoods and Sealtest. After retiring, he worked for Myles Property Management up until he became ill. He was a joker and loved to make sure a good joke was told and recycled for many years. He had a hearty laugh, a twinkle of trouble in those big brown eyes, and hands that worked very hard so that his family could have many extras and never need for anything. He loved tinkering in his garage and did many father /son projects that leave many cherished memories behind. A very special thank you to Dr. Charette and staff, Dr. Luison and Norma, Dr. Noble and Dr. Carleson and to all the amazing staff of the Cancer Clinic and Health Sciences North and to the homecare nurses that dad had the last few months. In keeping with Mike’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation at Lakeview Crematorium. Donations if you wish to a charity of your choice. Arrangements in care of Simple Wishes of the North. (705) 470-7070

I was sad to hear Mike was sick and more so now that he’s gone. My condolences to the family. May you rest in peace . I remember watching Mike putting an empty cup of coffee at the top of a windshield wiper just to joke with the next driver and I commented that it was a good thing it wasn’t mine as I was too short to reach it. Low and behold a few weeks later I found a cup of coffee at the bottom of the wiper so I could reach it. He could make you smile and have a good day and that was and will be missed.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear Mike has left us. I used to be a passenger on his bus back in the day when I was on public transit. My nickname for him was ‘Grumpy’ but he was always so kind to me. It always gave him a chuckle when I’d say hi Grumpy when I got on. I remember that devilish smile. My deepest respects to his loved ones. I’m certain he will be very much missed. Bye for now ‘Grumpy’ and thanks for your service to your fellow travellers. Comfort to those you loved.

Such a great brother in law, since I was a young girl looking for a quarter to make him a coffee. He took his younger 2 sisters in law and his younger brother in law under his wing, just like we were his own. Such fun growing up with you Mike for the last 46 years. Lots of convertible rides, trips to wasaga beach, just fun times. Will miss you much xo

Deeply saddens me to hear that you are gone. Mike you were a gentle soul. You gave me the great pleasure of working together until you had retired. You made me laugh every time we were together and I can still remember the times you got scared in the lunch room and flew off your seat in excitement.
You were missed considerably by me upon your retirement. I felt like I lost my rock. Thank you for being my friend and helping me through some serious situations back then.
To your family and friends, I send my deepest condolences…. may you rest in peace and rock out up in heaven brother!

Heaven has gained a great prankster and I’m sure that God has been laughing since Mike arrived. I worked with Mike at Sudbury Transit and one of the best lunch partners you could hope for was to see Mike coming in to have his sandwich. There were no dull moments. Sometimes I laughed so hard that I could hardly eat. I remember him jokingly throwing me onto the lunch table and suddenly the table went one way and I went the other. He scooped me up so fast that my head spun. The first day I worked at transit the inspector was having a bad day. We drivers were all tiptoeing around trying not to make things worse. Mike comes running over to my bus and said the inspector had been looking for me and calling for me on the radio. I flew up the stairs and into the office to see why I was wanted. The inspector nearly ate me alive, told me not to be a bother and Mike had the biggest laugh out of that one. The good ones always die young but in spite of the shortened years Mike knew how to live and he knew what really mattered. He was a man who will be remembered for a long time by so many people whose lives were touched by his good nature. Tickle God’s funny bone Mike! My sympathy to all those who loved him.

Mike, you left a permanent chapter in our lives. Your humour (in the giving and receiving) made each day a mystery of what you may do that day. Even though we are saddened by your leaving, some of the tears will be happy ones with those memories and knowing your battle is over. Enjoy your cribbage matches, and bring your flavour in the other world. Miss you.
