Michael Swanson Obituary

In loving memory of Michael "Mike", "Swanny" Swanson who passed away suddenly at his residence in Sudbury on Saturday, November 5th, 2016 at the age of 49 years. Beloved husband of Jacqueline "Jackie" Lafleur of Sudbury. Loving father of Alexandra Swanson (husband Jean Larocque) of Wahnapitae and Sydney Swanson of Barrie and step-father of Megan Lafleur of Sudbury. Mike was born in Sudbury on June 7th, 1967, son of Jane (nee Wilson) and Nick Fogarty, both predeceased. Mike was always known as a big man, with a big sense of humour, a big personality and an even bigger heart. He could take over any room and was always the life of the party. His passions included building motorcycles, dancing and singing to a variety of music and spending time outdoors. He adored spending time with his daughters fishing and catching their basketball games. Mike loved playing hockey, basketball and baseball and was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Mike was also a former hockey player with the Sudbury Wolves and the Lethbridge Broncos and was a powerful force on the ice. Mike's favourite place to be was with his girls in his dream home that he proudly built on Paddy Lake Rd. If he wasn't cooking in the kitchen, he'd spend his time cracking jokes he thought were hilarious and teasing his loved ones with his witty sense of humour. Mike also had a flare for decorating (hard to believe) and spent his last years carefully selecting each piece of furniture to complete his dream home with his best friend, Jacqueline. For the last six years, he worked at Vale as an electrical supervisor and was very happy to be involved with Miners for Cancer, a cause that was very dear to his heart. If anyone ever needed anything, Mike was first to offer a hand. His love for all of his ‘chums' was as strong as his love for his family. It's not often that someone didn't know ‘Swanny'. He will always be remembered for his famous spaghetti dinners and homemade popcorn. But most importantly, we will never forget his famous ability to make us laugh and always live in the moment. Mike was a very special person to many. He will be deeply missed and will be forever in our hearts. May we all find peace in knowing he has been reunited with his Mom. As per his wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation at Lakeview Crematorium. A celebration of Mike's life will take place at Bryston's On the Park (5 Creighton Rd, Copper Cliff) on Saturday, November 12th, 2016 from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm. All relatives and friends are invited to join the family for this special gathering. Donations to the Sydney Swanson Education Fund (cheques to be made out to Alexandra Swanson) or to the Maison Vale Hospice, in Mike's memory, would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements in care of Simple Wishes of the North - (705) 470-7070.
