Thanks to Jamie Dupuis for allowing us to share his gift of music

Walter passed away suddenly in Sudbury Tuesday morning, July 4th, 2017 at the age of 83 years. He was born in Toronto in 1933 and was raised in Timmins. The light of his life was his two sons who he loved more than words can express. Beloved son of Arvo and Mary Karen, both predeceased. Loving father of Daniel (Elaine) of Sudbury and Mark (predeceased 2006). Sadly missed by the mother of his children Raymonde Karen (nee Lauzon) of Sudbury. Dear brother of Margaret Kangas of Timmins. Adored grandfather of Pamela, David and Katherine and great-grandfather of Blythe. Lovingly remembered by cousin Bill Jalonen, nieces and nephews. Cherished partner of Leanne Deschatelets-Furchner of Sudbury and missed by her children Daniel and Yves Poirier and Louise Poirier Davey and her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Walter spent most of his adult life in law enforcement in Timmins, Sudbury and Valley East until his retirement in 1996. He was an active member of the Minnow Lake Lions Club and was Past President of the Suomi Lions Club and the Valley East Lions Club and a recipient of several awards. Walter enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing, golfing and skiing. His love of life and passions were reflected in his dedications, caring spirit, generosity and playfulness. His smile and sense of humor warmed the hearts of all who knew him. The Lions Club motto is “We Serve” and Walter exemplified that in so many ways. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation at Lakeview Crematorium. A celebration of Walter’s life will take place at the Minnow Lake Lions Club Den (3088 Claude St., Sudbury) on Saturday, July 15th, 2017 from 1-4 p.m. In his memory, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Minnow Lake Lions Club would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements in care of Simple Wishes of the North. (705) 470-7070

To Walter’s family: There goes a GREAT man to his just reward in Heaven. Walter was the epitome of a good, kind, helpful human being.
