Lucille Dion Obituary

DION, Lucille (1934 – 2024)

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Lucille Dion, Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the age of 89 years, in Sudbury, Ontario. Daughter of the late Fortunat Dion and the late Claudia (née Dutil). Dear mother of Lynn (Dale), Brigitte, David (Hilary), Laurie and Lise (Mike).  Lucille will be loved and affectionately remembered by her grandchildren Désirée Lamoureux (Darren), Devin (predeceased), Dustin, and Kristen.  Dear great-grandmother of Taylum and Jordan. She will be deeply missed by many family and friends, most profoundly, by her dear friend Carole Legault.

Lucille Marie Dion was a spirited and proud French-Canadian from Quebec. Her life was a tapestry of independence, and warmth, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.  Born in the heart of Quebec, Lucille embodied the essence of self-reliance. Even into her late 60s, she remained fiercely independent, chopping her own wood and baking her own bread, showcasing her unwavering determination and resilience. A woman of God, she was a faithful catholic who attended church regularly. As a true lover of animals, she also had many companion pets over the years, from dogs, to birds, and cats with human, French names.

Craftsmanship was her artistry, and she delved into it with boundless enthusiasm. At the age of 50, she enrolled in the woodworking program at Cambrian College where she built a beautiful China cabinet among other items. From woodworking to painting, and from sewing to culinary delights, Lucille’s hands were always busy creating beauty. Her home was a testament to her creativity, decorated with the fruits of her labor.

But it was in the kitchen where Lucille truly shone. Her culinary prowess knew no bounds, and she delighted in sharing her creations with loved ones. Whether it was a comforting meal, or her famous fresh French crêpes adorned with homemade whipped cream and fresh berries, her table was always a place of joy and abundance.

Beyond her talents, Lucille will be remembered for her sharp wit and infectious humor. With a mischievous twinkle in her eye, she often delighted in playful antics, using her innocent appearance to full advantage, including the occasional playful gesture that brought laughter to those around her.  Of course, a tribute to Lucille would be incomplete without mentioning her impeccable fashion sense and the joy she found in dressing up, a passion that brought elegance and grace to every occasion.

Family was the cornerstone of Lucille’s life, and her love for her children and grandchildren knew no bounds. She cherished every moment spent with them, imparting wisdom, and creating  memories that will endure for generations.

Lucille’s circle of friends extended far and wide, but her heart remained tied to her roots in Quebec. She found solace and joy in visiting her hometown, reconnecting with family, and reliving precious memories of her youth.

As we bid farewell to Lucille, we celebrate a life well-lived, rich with love, laughter, and a zest for life that drew people to her. Though she may no longer walk among us, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Lucille will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love and fondness. May she rest in eternal peace, her legacy living on in the hearts of those she touched.

The family would like to thank the staff at Extendicare York for the support and comfort they provided during her stay.
